Professor Hao Hongwei’s Team Won Three Champions in ICDAR2013

The International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2013) announced its Competitions results on August 28, 2013. The team led by Professor Hao Hongwei and Associate Professor Yin Xucheng from University of Science and Technology Beijing won three Champions of Robust Reading Competition including “Text Localization in Real Scenes”, “Text Localization in Born-Digital Images (Web and Email)” and “Text Segmentation in Born-Digital Images (Web and Email)”. The results of the latter two units had improved respectively 8.37% and 19.36% than the second.

 

It was worth mentioning that given its challenging in technology and wide range of adaptability, the unit of “Text Localization in Real Scenes” attracted nearly 30 teams of research institutes, universities and enterprises specialized on Document Analysis and Recognition, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence from dozens of countries including the USA, China, Germany, France, Singapore, Russia, Japan, Korea, India and Czech since its establishment. It becomes the most important world-wide competition and international standard in evaluation and examination of the latest development of study on Text Localization in Real Scenes and Born-Digital Images. The team headed by Professor Hao achieved the best performance of the “Text Localization in Born-Digital Images (Web and Email)” competition in last 10 years, and it was also the first time that the Chinese research team won this champion in particular.
