First International Summer School On Information Security And Protection Held in CASIA

Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) held the first International Summer School on Information Security and Protection during 26th Jul. to 30th Jul.. The summer school was hosted by Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), orgnaized by CASIA and Irdeto. There are around 60 lecturers and students coming from China, US, France, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Netherlands, Italy, South Korea, Denmark and Canada. Students come from schools, institutes, enterprise and public institution related to software security and protection. Lecturers are Prof. Christian Collberg from University of Arizona, Prof. Jack Davidson from University of Virginia, Prof. Roberto Giacobazzi from University of Verona and Prof. GU Yuanxiang from Cloakware. Prof. WANG Feiyue, Deputy Director of CASIA, is the Chair of the summer school.

The topic of this summer school is "Software Security and Protection". Nowadays, software is everywhere as a way of providing important services, which makes the protection of content, data and intelligence property of software a keystone in software development as well as a key condition for successful commercial applications. Many financially based software, e.g., key parts of Medical Information System, Digital Copyright Managing System, voting system, State Grid, traffic system and financial system will meet destructive attacks, without a strong software security and protection technology. This summer school is aiming to promote the development of software security and protection in China.

During the five-day course, students learned code obfuscation, software watermarking, tamper-proofing technology and a security model to explain attack strategy, measure method and principle in detail. Lecturers taught advanced technologies used in software security and protection in a way combining lectures, in course practice and after course exercise, to ensure students have a thorough understanding both in theory and practice.

Fifty students received certificate of completion awarded by ACM on the completion ceremony on 30th Jul..

This summer school promoted education innovation, opened students' vision, promoted international and inter-school communication and cooperation. This summer school is a great experience and brand new gain for students and lecturers as well as CASIA.
