Recently on the celebration of the 100th anniversary in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian Academy of Sciences (BAS) announced the results of membership election in 2015. TAN Tieniu, CAS member and professor of Institute of Automation, was co-opted as corresponding member of BAS. He was another Chinese scientist winning this honor followed by CAS members BAI Chunli and YUAN Yaxiang.
TAN Tieniu was known for his work in pattern recognition and computer vision, who was elected as CAS member in 2013 and also elected as foreign member of Royal Academy of Engineering and member of The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS).
BAS was established in Rio de Janeiro in May, 1956. It focuses in ten subject areas: mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth science, life science, agricultural science, biomedical science, health science, engineering science and social science.
